In the recent Queen's Birthday Honours List, the novelist Salman Rushdie was awarded a knighthood. I have never read a book by Sir Salman so I cannot comment on whether his work is worthy of such an accolade.
However, Pakistan's Religious Affairs Minister Ejaz-ul-Haq has said that the award is insulting Islam and may lead to terrorism.
It may come as a surprise to many Muslims but not everything that is done in the west is done with a view to upsetting Muslims.
Who is Ejaz-ul-Haq? He is the son of former Pakistan president Zia ul-Haq.
"If someone commits suicide bombing to protect the honour of the prophet Mohammed, his act is justified," he said, according to the translation by the Reuters news agency. "If Britain doesn't withdraw the award, all Muslim countries should break off diplomatic relations."
Okay, you cut off diplomatic relations - we will cut off all aid. Let's see who suffers most...
