Scrap tribunals

Muslim "hairdresser" Bushra Noah has won £4,000 for "hurt feelings" after she was turned down for a job at funky hairdressing salon because she refused to remove her headscarf - which she says is an integral part of her religion.

Thankfully, she lost her claim of direct discrimination but won the claim for "indirect discrimination" and four grand into the bargain.

This is madness. You apply for a job, don't get it and then the company has to stump up four grand because your feelings were hurt!

Victims of serious crime often do not get awarded this sum of money. It is time for the tribunals to be overhauled so that the awards bear some relation to commonsense.

Awards of this size do nothing to assuage the belief that there is one law for Muslims in Britain and one for everyone else.
